Moldova Gets €4.3 Million Grant for Southern Waste Management

The Moldovan Foreign Policy and European Integration Commission approved initiating negotiations and signing a grant agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for €4.3 million.

The funds will be used for the "Solid Waste in Moldova" project, which aims to develop solid waste management infrastructure in the Cahul, Cantemir, Taraclia, Vulcănești, Ceadâr-Lunga, and Comrat districts.

The project's total cost is roughly €17 million, with the EBRD grant funding several components. Cahul will receive €2.25 million to build a landfill, sorting and composting stations, as well as transfer stations in Cania, Taraclia, and Comrat.

An additional €810,000 will be allocated for purchasing waste treatment and disposal equipment. A similar amount will be used to close landfills in the areas where the project will be implemented.

It is noteworthy that Moldova previously secured a €25 million loan from the EBRD for another part of the same project. This project, targeting the Briceni, Ocnița, Edineț, and Dondușeni districts, will be completed by 2027.
