The Secretary of State of Sweden, visiting Chisinau: "The road to accession is long"
The State Secretary of the Ministry of International Cooperation for Development and Foreign Trade, of Sweden, Diana Janse, is visiting the Republic of Moldova on January 16-17. The Swedish official will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, as well as with the Minister of Internal Affairs Ana Revenco and the Minister of Environment Iordanca-Rodica Iordanov. She will also have meetings with representatives of civil society, local authorities and international partners.
The ongoing support given to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova is a major foreign policy objective and a priority for Sweden, reads a press release from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden in Chisinau. The Swedish official also stated that "The future of the Republic of Moldova is in Europe, although the path to accession is long and requires diligent work from all institutions. Sweden will stand by the Republic of Moldova throughout this process and will support it in dealing with the large number of refugees from Ukraine". We note that the visit of the Secretary of State of the Ministry of International Cooperation for Development and Foreign Trade in Stockholm takes place in the context of Sweden taking over the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
