Former Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev announces his candidacy for the presidential elections

The former Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Vasile Tarlev, officially announced his candidacy for the presidential elections this fall. Tarlev said that he made this decision following requests and urges from many citizens, emphasizing the need to be more actively involved in the political and economic life of the country.

"In these difficult times for Moldova, at the request and calls of many compatriots, I decided to accept the invitation to participate more actively in the political and economic life of our country. Dear compatriots of Moldova, with deep respect for you, for the history of the nation, for our cultural, ethnic and spiritual values and treasure, as a Christian patriot and lover of the country, I want to inform you of my intention to participate as independent candidate in the upcoming elections of the president of the Republic of Moldova", said Vasile Tarlev.

In the period 1997-2000, Vasile Tarlev was a member of the Economic Councils alongside the president and prime minister of the Republic of Moldova. He became Prime Minister on 19 April 2001 and he was re-elected in 2005.

Tarlev resigned in 2008 to allow the formation of a new government and was decorated with the "Order of the Republic" for his merits. After his resignation, he led the Centrist Union of Moldova and, later, he was co-president of the "Renaissance" Party. In 2024, he founded the "Future of Moldova" party and became its leader. We remind that, so far, the Moldovan president Maia Sandu, journalist Natalia Morari, the former general prosecutor Alexandr Stoianoglo, the former president of the DA Platform, Andrei Năstase, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova, Vlad Filat, the ex-prime minister Ion Chicu, the ex-minister of Foreign Affairs Tudor Ulianovschi and the former Bashkan of Gagauzia , Irina Vlah announced their intention to run for president.
