Banking institutions in Russia, the target of a large-scale cyber attack in Ukraine

A large-scale cyber attack, organized by the Defense Intelligence Services of Ukraine (GUR), paralyzed the activity of the main banking institutions and payment systems throughout Russia on Tuesday, Ukrainian sources said, cited by Ukrainskaia Pravda.

Thus, customers of major banks faced problems or the inability to use online and digital banking services.

Also, the operation of Russia's national payment systems, the SBP rapid payments system and the national card payment system, was blocked or significantly disrupted.

The cyber attack also affected mobile operators, causing disruption to mobile communications and the Internet. Russian authorities called the cyber attack "the work of politically motivated hackers".

The Ukrainian intelligence service claims that the attack is still ongoing and far from over.
