SNCF Attack Disrupts Trains Ahead of Paris 2024 Olympics
The French National Railway Company, SNCF, has announced that a "massive attack" on the railway infrastructure has caused significant disruptions to the high-speed train network, leading to delays and cancellations of trains, according to Euronews.
"Following this attack, which appears to aim at paralysing the train network, many routes are either being diverted or cancelled," SNCF stated in a release posted on social media. "We urge all travellers who can to postpone their journeys and avoid travelling to stations."
It is expected that the attack will create chaos in the transport system on the first day of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
A company spokesperson informed DW that the attack involves "arson" and that routes will be cancelled or delayed throughout the weekend while "repairs" are carried out.
SNCF is working intensively to restore normalcy to the railway network and minimise the impact on Olympic participants and spectators. Authorities continue to investigate the attack’s circumstances and ensure the protection of critical infrastructure.
