A Russian Su-34 fighter jet has crashed in the Volgograd region

A Russian Su-34 fighter-bomber crashed today in southern Russia's Volgograd region while on a scheduled training flight, the state-run RIA news agency said.

The crew members were able to eject and the plane crashed in a deserted area. The training flight was conducted without ammunition on board the aircraft.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the preliminary cause of the accident is a technical malfunction.

On June 11, an Su-34 crashed in the mountains of North Ossetia, killing the crew. At the time, the Russian Defense Ministry said the crash occurred during a scheduled training flight and was caused by a technical malfunction.
