France does not rule out foreign involvement in the act of sabotage that disrupted the train network before the Olympics

France's Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said he was not ruling out possible foreign involvement in Friday's sabotage of signaling stations and cables on the country's high-speed rail network, which caused chaos on the opening day of the Olympics, reports Reuters.

"Who is responsible? Whether it is from within or ordered from abroad, it is too early to say. We have discovered a certain number of elements that lead us to believe that we will know quite quickly who is responsible," said France's interior minister.

The attacks that happened at dawn on Friday damaged infrastructure along lines linking Paris to cities such as Lille in the north, Bordeaux in the west and Strasbourg in the east.

Another attack on the Paris-Marseille line has been thwarted, the French state institutions announced. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Traffic on France's high-speed rail network should return to normal by Monday, Transport Minister Patrice Vergriete said. The official noted that transportation plans for teams participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics will be guaranteed.

On Friday, 100 thousand people could not take the trains they had tickets for, and another 150 thousand faced delays.
