Judoka Denis Vieru will receive 2 million lei for the medal won in Paris
The Moldovan judoka Denis Vieru, who won the first medal for the Republic of Moldova at the Olympic Games in Paris, will get a prize of 2 million lei.
According to the Government's decision, the athletes who will get the gold medal will receive 3 million lei each, and those who will rank second and third will receive 2.6 and 2 million lei, respectively. The coaches will also be rewarded for the results achieved, the prize awarded to them being equal to that offered to the athlete.
At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Moldovan judoka Denis Vieru won the bronze medal in the competition of the weight category up to 66 kilograms. In the small final, an extremely balanced one, Vieru defeated the Frenchman Walide Khyar by waza-ari.
The top leadership of the country sent congratulatory messages, noting that the Republic of Moldova is proud of his medal. Denis Vieru became the first Moldovan judoka to win a medal at the Olympic Games.
