Cristina Gherasimov: Chisinau authorities will amend the Constitution

Once the status of a member state of the European Union is taken over, the authorities in Chisinau will amend the Constitution, and for this step, there are different ways, either parliamentary or through a referendum. The decision will be made closer to the date of accession. The statement was made by the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, on a show on Deschide.md.

Cristina Gherasimov said that a positive vote in the referendum will be the strongest political signal that we are united and we want the security of tomorrow, but if the citizens decide that they do not want to see the Republic of Moldova in the EU, it will be another missed opportunity in our country's history.

"Once we take over the status of a member state of the European Union, we will amend the Constitution. Our constitution would allow the adoption of the euro currency if we so wish. There are different ways for this step, either parliamentary or through a referendum. This decision on how to make these changes to the Constitution will be decided closer to the date of accession", Cristina Gherasimov said.

We remind you that presidential elections will take place this autumn. On the same day, on October 20, the referendum to amend the Constitution will be held, which will establish the direction of the Republic of Moldova to the EU and will declare European integration a strategic objective of our country.
