NATO's special planes reached Romania
The North Atlantic Alliance is increasing its presence on the Eastern Flank: special planes from the NATO Airborne Force have arrived in Romania, from where they will initiate patrol and surveillance missions, in the coming weeks, stated the Radio Moldova’s reporter in Bucharest, Alex Olaru.

NATO surveillance planes can detect air movements hundreds of kilometers away and arrived in Romania from the base in West Germany, where they were stationed. Now, their mission is to support NATO's presence in the region and to monitor Russian military activity. Two AWACS planes have already landed at Base 90 Air Transport in Otopeni, and a third will arrive in Romania in the coming hours. The high-performance planes have a radar antenna with a target of 500 km and can fly at an altitude of 13 thousand meters. Spy planes can transmit information to all other aircraft in the airspace that are properly equipped, which turns them into flying command posts. In addition to the aircraft, 180 NATO soldiers are also arriving in Romania, specially trained for surveillance and monitoring operations. AWACS spy planes have been used in the past during operations against the Islamic State terrorist group or in Afghanistan. Patrol missions were also organized in the sky of Romania, but this is the first time they are deployed here, since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
