A woman from the Republic of Moldova dies in the wildfires in Greece
The Greek authorities have confirmed through the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Moldova in Athens that a person from the Republic of Moldova died in the wildfires that affected the Athens region on August 13, 2024. The victim, a 65-year-old woman, was found dead in a factory in Patima Halandri, a suburb in the north-east of Athens, which was badly affected by fires, writes the Greek media.
According to sources, the woman had worked in this factory for over 25 years and was caught in the fire while alone in the building after her colleagues had left earlier due to the danger. Her body was found in the bathroom of the factory, where she probably tried to take refuge.
The fires in Athens caused major damage, destroying homes, businesses and thousands of hectares of land, forcing the evacuation of thousands of people from the affected areas
