Major disruptions as Typhoon Ampil hits Tokyo: Flights cancelled
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has issued a warning to all residents regarding Typhoon Ampil, which is expected to reach the Kanto region on the night of August 15-16.
The typhoon is anticipated to bring strong winds, torrential rain, high waves, and possible landslides. In light of this, the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Japan advises Moldovans to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions for their safety and that of their families.
The authorities also recommend that citizens avoid non-essential travel during the typhoon and regularly check weather updates from local officials.
"We urge all compatriots in Tokyo and the surrounding areas to take all necessary measures to ensure their safety and that of their families, including verifying evacuation routes and shelter locations if needed. In cases of extreme urgency, Moldovan citizens in Japan can contact +81 80 8850 7372," states the embassy’s announcement.
Typhoon Ampil struck Tokyo on Thursday, resulting in airlines cancelling hundreds of flights and railways suspending some operations during the peak summer travel season. Japan Airlines has announced that it will cancel 191 domestic flights and 26 international flights on Friday, many of which are scheduled to depart from or arrive at Haneda Airport in Tokyo.
Another major airline has announced the cancellation of 280 domestic flights initially planned for Friday, affecting more than 60,000 passengers.
