Only members of the Hunters' Association are authorised to hunt, as outlined by Oleg Ciocoi, the president of the Society of Hunters and Fishermen of the Republic of Moldova (SHF RM), during a radio interview on Radio Moldova's program "Day by Day."

Hunters must possess a hunting licence and a firearm carrying permit to be eligible for a bag limit/harvest permit. This permit allows them to hunt specific species listed in Annex No. 1 of Law 298, "The Law of Hunting and the Hunting Fund." The hunting season will be conducted on terrains designated to the Hunters' Association and forested areas managed or overseen by the Moldsilva Agency.

Hunting seasons and days vary by species. For instance, the collared dove and turtle dove hunting season is open from 17 August to 13 October, on Saturdays and Sundays, and includes the national holidays of 27 and 31 August. Quail hunting is also permitted during this period, but only on Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

The bag limit for each species is established by a separate order on the approval of harvesting quotas for specific wildlife species of hunting interest. "The duck hunting season, which includes mallard, teal, wigeon, and pintail, begins on 14 September," SHF RM president Oleg Ciocoi further noted. "Hunting is allowed on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Goose hunting starts on 16 October and continues until 13 January 2025."

This year, thrush hunting will also be permitted, with a season running from 24 November to 5 January 2025. Hare hunting follows the same season dates.

Those who violate the established hunting regulations or calendar risk fines or expulsion from the Hunters' Association.

The 2024-2025 hunting season in Moldova officially commences on 15 August and concludes on 31 March 2025.
