Chișinău increases hospital beds amid rising COVID-19 cases
The number of COVID-19 infection cases in Chișinău is on the rise. Consequently, municipal authorities have decided to increase the number of hospital beds.
This announcement was made during an operational meeting at the Chișinău City Hall by Marina Buga, Deputy Head of the General Directorate for Medical and Social Assistance. According to her, there were 170 more cases reported last week compared to the previous week.
“The epidemiological situation in Chișinău has been marked by an increase in COVID-19 cases. While this is not an alarming situation, it remains under control,” stated Marina Buga. “To strengthen hospital care for patients with moderate and severe cases, it has been decided that 40 beds at the Municipal Clinical Hospital of Phthisiopneumology will be converted into infectious beds to accommodate patients with moderate and severe forms of COVID-19. Patients with severe and very severe cases requiring intensive care will be transferred to the Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Health.”
Currently, there are 54 individuals hospitalised with COVID-19 in Chișinău, all with moderate severity. The municipality has a total of 64 beds available for patients.
In this context, health authorities have issued several recommendations for citizens. Specialists advise wearing protective masks in public places, particularly in enclosed or crowded spaces, to reduce the risk of virus transmission. It is also recommended to maintain physical distance and strictly follow hygiene measures. Additionally, authorities urge citizens to get vaccinated to limit the spread of the virus and prevent severe cases of the infection.
