Ukraine escalates drone attacks on Moscow and key Russian regions
Russia and Ukraine carried out significant attacks again last night. While Ukraine launched a massive wave of drones on Moscow and other regions in Russia, including Kursk, Russia responded by bombing critical infrastructure in southern and eastern Ukraine.
Ukraine executed one of its largest drone attacks on Russia’s capital, Moscow, as well as on other regions such as Kursk and Volgograd. In Volgograd, a military airfield was severely damaged, causing a fire after a drone crash. In total, Russian air defence intercepted 45 drones over the country, but the attack still caused significant material damage, according to RBC.
In Kursk, Ukraine used U.S.-supplied HIMARS missiles to destroy several bridges and pontoons over the Seym River. These actions were aimed at disrupting Russian supply lines, creating difficulties for Moscow’s troops in the region. The Independent notes that these attacks are part of Ukraine’s broader strategy to isolate and destabilise Russian forces in the occupied areas.
Russia continued to strike Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, focusing on the southern and eastern regions. In Odessa, Russian missiles hit port infrastructure, including grain silos, causing significant damage. Kharkiv was also targeted, with missiles hitting residential areas and critical infrastructure, injuring several people.
