Moldova faces heatwave with high fire risk and fluctuating rivers

The Republic of Moldova continues to face a heatwave. Meteorologists have issued Yellow and Orange Code warnings for the entire country.

In the northern half, temperatures are expected to reach highs of +34 to +35°C, while the rest of the country will experience temperatures ranging from +36 to +37°C.

The weather will be influenced by a high-pressure system, resulting in partly cloudy skies and no precipitation. Winds from the northeast will range from light to moderate, offering little relief from the heat. At night, temperatures will range from +15 to +20°C, while daytime temperatures will remain between +34 and +37°C across the country.

Additionally, over the next 24 hours, water levels in the Nistru and Prut rivers are expected to fluctuate significantly in certain sections. On the Naslavcea-Dubăsari stretch of the Nistru River, water levels are forecasted to decrease by 40-100 cm, while on the Hrușca-Dubăsari section, levels are expected to rise by 10-80 cm. The Vadul lui Vodă-Talmaza section is anticipated to see an increase in water levels by 10-50 cm. In the Prut River, between Leova and Cahul, water levels are expected to decrease by 10 cm. In other sections of the Nistru, Prut, and smaller rivers, hydrological conditions will remain relatively stable.

Given the high temperatures, specialists advise the public to avoid prolonged sun exposure between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM, to wear hats and light clothing, and to limit the consumption of coffee and alcohol. It is also important to note that until August 30th, the exceptional risk of fires remains across the entire country. IGSU representatives warn of the danger posed by open fires near dry vegetation, forests, and other areas vulnerable to the spread of fires.
