Moldova advances Transnistria reintegration with new economic measures

The Moldovan government has made significant strides in recent years towards the social and economic reintegration of the Transnistrian region.

Despite ongoing challenges, authorities in Chișinău remain committed to achieving the established goals.

Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Oleg Serebrian, emphasised the progress made in an interview with Radio Moldova, while acknowledging the need for continued efforts. He outlined plans to further accelerate the reintegration process in the coming years.

The geopolitical context, particularly the ongoing war in Ukraine, has presented both opportunities and challenges for Moldova. The country's pursuit of European Union membership has provided a positive impetus for reintegration efforts.

Serebrian highlighted a significant shift in the negotiation dynamics, transitioning from a predominantly political agenda to a more focused approach on social and economic issues.

Moldova has taken a proactive stance in controlling trade and the flow of goods to the Transnistrian region, implementing new measures to eliminate customs privileges and strengthen its economic leverage.

These initiatives are indicative of Moldova's determination to address the complex challenges associated with Transnistria's reintegration and to foster a more united and prosperous nation.
