Moldova invests in modernising ambulance fleet
People in numerous districts across Moldova will have enhanced access to emergency medical services. This follows the recent delivery of 41 new ambulances.
The project, valued at 3.5 million euros, is funded by the Council of Europe Development Bank.
The ambulances are equipped with modern medical equipment and state-of-the-art radio communication systems. The majority of these vehicles will be deployed primarily in rural areas where access to emergency medical care is often limited.
Most of the ambulances are being allocated to rural areas, improving working conditions for emergency doctors. Only 11 of them will remain in the capital.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean stated that these vehicles will significantly reduce the response time of medical personnel to patients.
The government is committed to enhancing its capacity to respond to medical emergencies and ensure that patients receive timely care. The goal is to be within 15 minutes of any patient in need.
Currently, the National Center for Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Assistance operates a fleet of approximately 500 ambulances, of which over 70% are outdated.
The government aims to modernise the fleet by 20% annually. This ambitious goal is expected to be achieved within a few years.
According to the Ministry of Health, over 180 ambulances have been purchased in the last two years, and another 20 ambulances are scheduled to be distributed in the coming months.
