Over a hundred ships loaded with Ukrainian grain are blocked in Turkish ports

More than a hundred ships loaded with Ukrainian grain are in Turkish ports and unable to reach their destination, pending travel approval and inspections. The problem of inefficiency in the operation of an agreement that allows Ukraine to export grain on the Black Sea was raised and flagged by the United Nations (UN), reports Rador.

According to the agreement reached by Ukraine, Turkey, Russia and the United Nations in July, ships are inspected in Turkish waters when they leave and when they return to Ukraine. The four parties work together to approve and inspect vessels travelling under this agreement.

The United Nations called on all parties to engage to remove obstacles to reduce delays and improve operational efficiency, the UN said in a statement.

The American ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, stated that, according to the agreement, the movement of five million tons of food should take place per month.

So far, more than 17 million tonnes of grain and other food products have been exported through the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
