Moldova's new school year begins with a call for peace

The new academic year begins today, September 2, in 1,059 educational institutions across the country.

The first lesson, themed "Together for Peace," will be mandatory for all public and private educational institutions. President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Dorin Recean, and Minister of Education Dan Perciun delivered messages of congratulations to students and teachers.

Minister of Education Dan Perciun wished students a year filled with new knowledge, friendships, and achievements. He emphasised the importance of preparing for the final exams, encouraging everyone to remain confident in their abilities, regardless of academic results: "Know that you are winners," the minister added.

President Maia Sandu of the Republic of Moldova shared a message on her Facebook page, underscoring the importance of lifelong learning and mutual respect. "We value peace and mutual understanding; we learn to build, not to destroy," the head of state wrote, wishing students a year rich in knowledge and personal growth.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean sent a message of encouragement to students, wishing them enthusiasm, determination, and discipline to excel in their studies and acquire new skills.

In certain districts, such as Telenești, Ocnița, Criuleni, Șoldănești, Cahul, and Soroca, all schools decided to start the new academic year on September 2.

Earlier, the Ministry of Education and Research issued a circular informing educational institutions of their right to decide the time and date of the ceremony marking the beginning of the new academic year.
