The President of the European Council, Charles Michel arrived in Kyiv

The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, arrived in Kyiv today where he would discuss the new measures to support Ukraine with the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski, who requested the acceleration of arms deliveries, Agerpres reports.

The two leaders will discuss "concrete measures to ensure that Ukraine is stronger," Charles Michel said in a video message posted on Twitter.

He stated that he would also discuss in Kyiv with the Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmihal, as well as with members of the Ukrainian parliament.

This visit comes on the eve of a meeting in Ramstein, Germany of the contact group for Ukraine which brings together about 50 countries led by the US. The talks will focus on the coordination of aid to Ukraine and in particular the provision of heavy armour and modern air defence systems.

In context, the United Kingdom has already pledged 14 Challenger 2 heavy tanks, and Poland has said it is ready to send 14 German-made Leopard 2 tanks if Berlin authorises their re-export to Ukraine.
