Moldova and Hungary strengthen ties through economic cooperation
By the end of this year, at least three training visits to Hungary will be organised for public officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Customs Service, and representatives of local public administration.
The announcement was made on Friday by Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi during a joint press conference with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Péter Szijjártó, who is on an official visit to Chișinău.
Next week, 32 representatives of the local public administration (APL) will travel to Hungary to benefit from Hungary’s experience in local development and infrastructure projects. According to Mihai Popșoi, these visits aim to strengthen the institutional capacities of public officials from the Republic of Moldova.
The head of Moldovan diplomacy noted that economic cooperation with Hungary is steadily increasing. In 2023, Hungary ranked 12th among Moldova’s external partners, with trade volume exceeding $227 million, and in the first five months of this year, it reached $90 million.
Mihai Popșoi further announced that the authorities in Chișinău are ready to hold a meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission at a time convenient for both parties.
In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister confirmed that by the end of September, the President of the National Assembly of Hungary, László Kövér, will visit Chișinău.
Péter Szijjártó’s agenda in Moldova also includes meetings with President Maia Sandu and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development, Dumitru Alaiba.
It is worth recalling that, as of July 1, Hungary assumed the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) from Belgium for a six-month period. This marks the second time Hungary has held the presidency of the Council.
