Sinner triumphs at US Open, clinches second Grand Slam
World number one Jannik Sinner clinched his first US Open title by defeating American Taylor Fritz in the final. The Italian triumphed in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5, in a match that lasted 2 hours and 17 minutes.
This victory marks Sinner's second Grand Slam title, having previously won the Australian Open at the start of the year. Sinner has now become the second-youngest player in the Open Era to secure both the Australian Open and US Open men's singles titles in the same season.
"This title means a great deal to me, as the recent phase of my career has not been easy," Sinner remarked. "My team supports me every day. I love tennis and I work incredibly hard. I want to dedicate this title to my aunt. She is facing health challenges, and I'm uncertain about how much time she has left."
With his US Open success, Sinner will receive a prize of $3.6 million, while finalist Taylor Fritz will be awarded half that amount.
