The Republic of Moldova requested air defense systems

The Republic of Moldova has requested air defence systems from its allies in an attempt to strengthen its military capabilities as the war in Ukraine continues, but Russia's efforts to destabilise the country have so far failed, President Maia Sandu said on Thursday.

"We requested surveillance and air defence systems," Maia Sandu told Reuters in an interview on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

"We understand that Ukraine is a priority and should receive these systems, but we hope to receive some as well", said Maia Sandu. She added that her country will need at least the same amount - 600 million euros - in budget support in 2023 as last year to protect its population from the effects of inflation.
