The case is imported and was confirmed in a 26-year-old woman from Chisinau. The person fell ill during a trip to India, where the first symptoms of the disease appeared (fever, chills, myalgias, arthralgias). On September 13, she returned to the Republic of Moldova and she is currently receiving appropriate treatment. During the last years, in the Republic of Moldova, four cases of Dengue fever were registered, all of them imported.

Dengue fever is caused by a virus transmitted by mosquitoes of the genus Aedes (a type of mosquito widespread in tropical and subtropical regions, currently also found in the habitats of the Republic of Moldova). The bite of infected mosquitoes causes the infection, but it is not transmitted from one person to another, or through certain objects. Dengue fever symptoms can range from mild to severe: fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, rash and fatigue.

According to the ANSP, early diagnosis is important to allow the administration of appropriate treatment and to apply disease control measures. Two Dengue vaccines are available, both of which are designed for use in areas where Dengue fever is common.

ANSP specialists recommend when travelling to an endemic area to protect yourself from mosquito bites. When the specific signs of this infection appear, specialists urge you to see a doctor.
