Italy is preparing to send another anti-missile system to Ukraine, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said, but he stressed the need for Western allies to avoid going to war with Russia. The official added that "defending Ukraine does not mean bringing about a world war."

Meanwhile, in Moscow, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said the United States should consider Moscow's warnings about the risks of an escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.

Kiev is insisting that the West allow it to use the long-range weapons it has been supplied to strike strategic military targets deep inside Russia.

The US Democratic administration is still hesitant, but the topic will be addressed next week in Washington when President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is scheduled to meet with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee in the November 5 presidential election. On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Zelenski also has a meeting with former President Donald Trump.
