40 percent of the railway network of the Republic of Moldova is in a damaged state and has speed or weight restrictions. According to the general director of Moldova’s Railway (CFM), Oleg Tofilat, all shunting locomotives are over 40 years old.
At the same time, in the case of the majority of grain wagons, the term of operation expires in 2024. Out of 780 grain wagons that we have, 700 will go out of operation next year, and the others - in 2025, informs Moldpres. According to him, CFM aims to procure a thousand grain wagons to be delivered by 2025. The new wagons will be financed by an assistance loan from the Government of Poland in the amount of 65 million euros. According to statistics, last year, the total volume of goods transported by CFM was 1232 million tons/km, about 84% more than the previous year.
