The Republic of Moldova asks for the help of the EU and international partners to support farmers
The Republic of Moldova requests support for establishing a Development and Solidarity Fund for agriculture. Official letters were sent on Tuesday, September 24, to the ministers of agriculture from the 27 countries of the European Union, as well as those from the USA, Canada, Japan and Norway, announced the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Vladimir Bolea. In Brussels last week, Bolea held a series of strategic discussions regarding collaboration in the field between our country and the European Union and supporting Moldovan farmers affected by natural disasters.
The initiative to create the Development and Solidarity Fund was discussed, later, at the meeting with Janusz Wojciechowski, the European Commissioner for Agriculture. This Fund aims to financially support farmers, to modernize agricultural infrastructure, to promote technological innovations and to increase resilience to extreme climatic conditions, which affect the productivity and stability of agriculture in the country.
We remind you that farmers from the Republic of Moldova recently protested in several districts of the country, but also in front of the Presidency. Farmers are concerned about the special law voted by Parliament which provides, among other things, that for 6 months farmers will have a respite to restructure their debts to banking institutions.
