The Delegation of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, headed by deputy Ion Groza, participates in the PACE autumn session, which is held from September 30 to October 4 in Strasbourg, France. The Moldovan Delegation also includes deputies Andrian Cheptonar and Constantin Starîș.
The session's agenda includes current topics such as propaganda and freedom of information in Europe, combating migrant smuggling, the refugee situation and providing emergency medical care for women and children in Gaza. The parliamentarians will also mark the commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor, addressing in context the current threats facing Ukraine.
During the session, two topics were proposed for urgent debate: the deterioration of the situation of human rights and democracy in Azerbaijan, as well as the issue of missing persons in the context of the Russian Federation's war in Ukraine. One of the important moments of the meeting will be the awarding of the Václav Havel Prize for Human Rights. The winner will be chosen from among three candidates who have distinguished themselves through their work in the defense of human rights at the international level.
Lithuania's Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis and North Macedonia's Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister Timčo Mucunski are among the officials who will address the plenary. The new Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, will deliver his first speech in this position.
