Case on mass disorder: Seven people, detained in 2023, convicted
The seven people detained in 2023 for organizing mass disorder were sentenced to imprisonment from 3 years to 3.5 years. They will serve their sentence in a semi-closed prison. The decision was pronounced by the magistrates of the Chisinau Court based in Buiucani, today, September 30.
The prosecutors announce that the criminal group, whose objective was to trigger and participate in mass disturbances in the Great National Assembly Square, including picketing the offices of the Presidency, the Parliament, the MAI and the Public Broadcaster "Teleradio-Moldova", was created during 2022 – March 2023.
The law enforcement officers established that citizens of the Republic of Moldova were involved in the group, who were found guilty by today's decision of the Chisinau Court, as well as other persons who are in the process of being identified. They allegedly identified, instigated by the promise of remuneration, as well as transported to the municipality of Chisinau several men, especially young men with an athletic constitution, among them also previously convicted, who, against the previously promised remuneration, were willing to start physical altercations with the representatives of the authorities who were meant to ensure public order.
Prosecutors determined that the recruited persons were instructed to act violently against the representatives of the authorities during the street demonstration. The actions were planned for March 12, 2023, but they were not held after some organizers were detained in the evening of March 11 to 12.
The case was under examination at the Chisinau Court from April 20, 2023 to September 30, 2024, with 44 court hearings being held during the reference period. The defendants do not admit their guilt.
The sentence can be challenged to the Chisinau Court of Appeal within 15 days.
