Number of electric and hybrid vehicles on a rise in the Republic of Moldova
The number of electric and hybrid vehicles in the Republic of Moldova has increased in the last seven years. According to the National Center for Sustainable Energy, based on the data of the Public Services Agency, over 41 thousand such cars were registered in the period 2018-2024.
Although the share of electric and hybrid vehicles in the total number of cars registered in the Republic of Moldova is relatively small, about 4%, a positive trend can be observed in the national perception of the importance of reducing energy consumption in transport. This is reflected in the registration of an increasing number of electric and hybrid means of transport, both among individuals and legal entities, except public electric transport.
In the last seven years, 3,829 electric cars and 37,744 hybrid cars were registered. Among them, 2,849 electric cars are owned by individuals, while 980 are owned by legal entities, which shows that the number of those who choose electric vehicles is about three times higher in the case of individuals. As for hybrid cars, 33,415 are owned by individuals and 4,329 by legal entities, which shows an almost eight times higher popularity among individual users.
One of the objectives of the National Center for Sustainable Energy is to encourage road users to opt for "green" means of transport, characterized by low CO2 emissions and energy efficiency, thus contributing to a cleaner environment and reducing fuel consumption.
