Minors recruited for campaigning: Police warn parents to be vigilant
The Police of the Republic of Moldova discovered a case of involvement of minors in illegal electoral activities in Comrat. Authorities warn parents not to allow children to participate in such activities. According to law enforcement officers, this poses risks to the safety of minors and contravenes national law, violating children's rights.
According to the statement issued by the Police, members of a criminal organization recruited seven teenagers and convinced them to get involved in an alleged opinion poll in favor of a political party. Later, the young people were directed to carry out campaigning activities for an electoral competitor. They received a total financial reward of 5370 lei, an amount that one of the teenagers involved partially distributed to other colleagues, before they were discovered.
The Comrat case is not the only incident. Recently, other voter corruption networks were discovered, coordinated by Ilan Şor's supporters. More than 130,000 people were involved in schemes to influence the elections, including through financial rewards and electoral promises, reads a report made by the Moldovan authorities.
Moreover, according to a monitoring report carried out by Promo-LEX, undeclared sums of over 2 million lei were discovered, used for electoral bribes.
