Constantin Borosan: The Republic of Moldova has enough gas stocks for 20 days of winter consumption
The Republic of Moldova has sufficient gas stocks to react and intervene in case of an emergency. The statement was made by the state secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Constantin Borosan, in the “Buna dimineata” show on Moldova 1 TV.
"Today we have storage of about 100 million cubic meters of natural gas, which is about 20 days of winter consumption. We have enough reaction time to intervene in case of an emergency".
Borosan said that 47.1 million cubic meters of gas are stored according to the legislation of the Republic of Moldova, which requires us to have at least 10 days of winter consumption. "10 days is enough to react quickly: either to commercially secure an alternative source of natural gas, in case a supplier does not deliver the full required volume, or if an accident happens to the natural gas infrastructure, it is time enough to intervene and deliver natural gas on other alternatives".
Also, another 50 million cubic meters of gas are stored in Romania, according to an EU Regulation, transposed into national legislation.
"The European Union regulation says the following: countries that have storage facilities on their territory, by November 1 of each year, ensure their filling at 90% level. We do not have natural gas stocks. Another rule applies to our country - countries that do not have storage capacity store 15% of their average annual consumption in one of the neighbouring countries. We store this volume of natural gas, which equates to exactly 50 million cubic meters in Romania," the official said.
Among the measures foreseen for the cold season of the year, Constantin Borosan said the permanent monitoring of the pressure in the networks, the provision of public institutions with alternative sources of energy, such as electric generators, fuel stocks for them, etc.
We remind you that, previously, the Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, declared that the Republic of Moldova is prepared for the cold season.
"No matter where, through Ukraine or Turkey, those 5.7 million cubic meters will come. This is the basic scenario. If they don't come, surely we will have to intervene. For now, everything is calm and quiet, we have no certainty or expectation that the risks related to the non-delivery of gas will materialize. Once there is clarity on the gas delivery alternative, there will be clarity with this contract related to MGRES. We will be able to provide the necessary electricity. I am sure that these gas price reductions on the international stock exchanges will certainly end up reducing people's bills and the price of thermal energy during the heating season", claims the Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov.
The diversification of natural gas supply sources and the use of alternative fuels are some of the measures provided for in the Preparation Plan for the 2024-2025 heating season, approved by the Government.
