A former deputy will stand trial for illicit enrichment. Prosecutors sent the case to court

A former deputy of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova will stand trial, after the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office completed the criminal investigation and sent the file to court. He is accused of illicit enrichment. According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, during the period 2014-2019 the deputy would have accumulated, both personally and through a relative, assets that exceed his legal income by almost 2 million lei.

The prosecutors claim that there is an unjustified difference of 1.9 million lei between the wealth of the former deputy and the income reported during the period when he held public office positions. Although he did not admit his guilt, the case was sent for examination to the Chisinau Court based in Buiucani.

If found guilty, the former deputy risks a fine of up to 500,000 lei or a prison sentence of up to 15 years, with a ban on holding public office for 10-15 years. Also, the prosecutors seized real estate and sums of money, including a property valued at over 1.4 million lei.
