IGP gets ready for election day: additional teams and strict monitoring
The General Police Inspectorate (IGP) is implementing additional measures to ensure order and security on the day of the presidential election and the constitutional referendum on October 20. The head of the IGP, Viorel Cernăuțeanu, announced that the intervention and documentation teams will be doubled to respond quickly in case of incidents. This was announced in a show on Exclusiv TV.
"On Friday we start the actual voting stage, we are the ones who ensure all the processes of accompanying and escorting the ballot papers to all 1900 polling stations, where we have to ensure public order when taking, transporting and keeping them", explained Cernăuțeanu. He said that a policeman will be present in each polling station at a distance of 100 meters, under legal norms.
To prevent incidents, the police will double the intervention and documentation teams, being prepared to act promptly in case of violations of public order or other irregularities. "We will have the criminal investigation teams doubled during this period to be as quick as possible in the documentation process," the IGP chief added.
Regarding citizens' responsibility, Cernăuțeanu emphasized respecting the legal framework. "No one will be absolved of responsibility for their actions," he warned, referring to the severe penalties for acts of electoral corruption.
Also, Cernăuțeanu admitted that there are risks of provocations in the polling stations for the citizens of the Transnistrian region, but he assured that the police will be vigilant. "Everyone has the right to vote, but this cannot be ensured through organized transports or other forms with corrupt intentions," the head of the IGP said.
These measures come amid concerns over possible challenges and tensions during the polls.
