Sugar will not increase in price
There are no conditions for sugar to become more expensive by the end of the year, even if the sugar beet harvest has been compromised, said the representative of a producing company, Nicolae Ciubuc, for Radio Moldova. According to him, the Republic of Moldova should import from European countries about 40% of the amount of sugar needed by the population for the next 12 months.
"This year the company will produce less sugar, but currently I do not see any conditions for the price to increase for domestic consumers. The price of sugar is not determined by the weather conditions in the Republic of Moldova, it is determined by the indicative price formed at the regional or international level. Last year's reserves, which were not used, will be marketed this year. In 2024, sugar production is lower," said Nicolae Ciubuc.
We remind you that at the end of August, the largest sugar-producing company in our country, declared that 60% of its total sugar beet harvest this year was compromised by drought. The company has forecast a production deficit, which will affect the sugar industry in the Republic of Moldova.
