Dorin Recean denounces attempts of electoral fraud and calls for mobilization for the second round: "They can't commit fraud as much as we can vote"

The vote cast by the citizens of the Republic of Moldova in the elections on October 20 reflects the desire of the majority of people to continue on the European path, despite attempts at fraud and electoral propaganda. This statement was made by Prime Minister Dorin Recean at the beginning of the Government meeting on October 23. The official thanked all citizens, including those in the diaspora, for their active participation in the vote and called on political forces to condemn attempts of election fraud and thus defend democracy.

“Despite all these attempts of electoral fraud, to spread propaganda, to sow discord among people, the citizens of Moldova said a firm 'YES' at the referendum and a firm 'yes' to building our country on a European model,” declared the Prime Minister, congratulating all citizens for this decision.

The government will continue to explain the importance of European integration, especially to those who voted against at the referendum, and will take additional measures to prevent the risks of electoral fraud, said Dorin Recean.

Also, the Prime Minister called on all political forces to firmly condemn any attempt of electoral fraud.

“I understand that the relevant authorities will present the extent of electoral fraud, and then I expect all, but all electoral competitors who declare themselves as being for democracy, and are for people to freely express their voting option, to condemn this effort of electoral fraud.”

For the second round of elections, likely scheduled for November 3, the Prime Minister encouraged massive mobilization at the polls, emphasizing that free and informed voting is the best way to combat potential attempts of fraud : "They can't commit fraud as much as we can vote", added Recean.

We remind you that at least 400 people would have sold their vote in Sunday's elections. The law enforcement officers announced then that they are documented and most of them are cooperating with the investigation. If found guilty, the suspects risk fines of up to 37,500 lei.

The incumbent president, Maia Sandu, who is running for a new mandate from the Action and Solidarity Party, and former prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo, who is supported by the Socialist Party, will compete in the second round of the presidential elections.
