Moldova and Romania sign memorandum for energy innovation

The energy ministers of Moldova and Romania signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop partnerships and promote innovation in the energy sector.

The memorandum stipulates that the parties will make concerted efforts to create a competitive and innovative environment in the energy sector and in clean technologies, both in Moldova and Romania.

"This memorandum adds another line of collaboration with Romania, focusing this time on innovation," stated the Moldovan Minister of Energy.

Known as the Sandbox, this memorandum will help create opportunities for financing innovative, technical, and economic solutions, as well as new business models in energy innovation. It aims to adapt the energy market to the European model and facilitate the changes necessary to align more closely with the European market.

These changes, which are already significantly increasing consumer comfort, would not be possible without the unprecedented support of our friends across the Prut.

The signed document states that Moldova and Romania will collaborate to identify industry needs at both national and regional levels for green technologies, develop programs and pilot projects to support innovation in these technologies, and identify options to promote investments in significant solutions that can advance the clean technologies industry and influence the regional energy sector. Furthermore, it will outline strategies based on best practices from Romania and the European Union, which have led to investments in green energy.

In the context of signing the Memorandum, the parties agreed to work together to develop projects and initiatives that support innovation, particularly for digital and smart solutions in Cleantech, advanced renewable energy, nuclear energy, and a comprehensive ecosystem for green hydrogen. This includes producing specific equipment for hydrogen production, investing in hydrogen transport infrastructure and refuelling stations, as well as projects for energy storage, biomass production, and implementing green and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems.
