Police investigate bribery case linked to 'ȘOR' organisation

A woman from the locality of Florițoaia Nouă reported to the Police Inspectorate of Ungheni that she received 1,500 lei from the leader of a criminal group associated with the “ȘOR” criminal organisation in exchange for voting for a specific candidate in the presidential elections and choosing “NO” in the referendum. The suspect has been detained for 72 hours.

Law enforcement officers, under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office of Ungheni district, conducted authorised searches at the home and office of the leader, a 26-year-old man.

The authorities found and seized several pertinent pieces of evidence related to the involvement in the commission of electoral corruption: cash, multiple copies of citizens’ identity cards, lists of party members and supporters, informative leaflets containing slogans against the constitutional republican referendum, several SIM cards, mobile phones, laptops, and a tablet containing information relevant to the investigation.

Additionally, lists of observers assigned both inside and outside the polling stations were discovered, who were to be compensated for influencing voters’ choices.

According to the police, a criminal case for electoral corruption has been initiated, and if the suspect's guilt is proven, he faces a fine of up to 55,000 lei or imprisonment for up to 5 years.

The police and prosecutors in Ungheni continue to investigate the case to determine all the circumstances.
