Republic of Moldova: In a single year, the number of cars increased by about 30,000 units

In the European Union, there are more than 250 million cars and more than half of them run on petrol. At the end of 2021, there were about 250 million cars in the European Union, with the total car fleet increasing by 3 million in the last year and by 15 million in the last four years, according to a report by the Association of European Automobile Manufacturers, HotNews reports.

Germany has the largest car fleet, numbering 48 million, increasing by 2 million cars in four years. In Italy, there are almost 40 million cars, and in France, over 38 million. There are 25 million cars in Spain and Poland. In Romania, the threshold of 9 million vehicles was passed last year, and the car fleet increased by over 2 million in the last five years. More than half of the cars registered in European countries in circulation are running on petrol, around 42 are running on diesel less than a percent are full-electric.

In the Republic of Moldova, currently, a total of approximately one million and 200 thousand vehicles of all types, including trailers, are registered, and approximately 746 thousand of them are passenger cars, according to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics published on the government data portal. Most cars drive in Chisinau and Balti. Over 240 thousand motor vehicles are registered in the country's capital, and 33 thousand units in Balti.

The data reveals that the number of cars increased from approximately 717 thousand in 2021 to approximately 746 thousand in 2022.
