Experts' conclusions, after the first electoral debate between Maia Sandu and Alexandr Stoianoglo
The first electoral debate of the presidential candidates, Maia Sandu and Alexandr Stoianoglo, clearly showed the political differences between the two. The stake of the confrontation was to inform the voters, attract the undecided and present the solutions to the problems faced by the citizens. This is the opinion of political scientist from Bucharest Cristian Pârvulescu expressed in a special edition on Radio Moldova, after the broadcast of the electoral debate from the Palace of the Republic.
During the first face-to-face debate, both candidates for the presidential elections, Maia Sandu and Alexandr Stoianoglo, had somewhat dominant positions on certain aspects, more or less problematic, said political analyst Cristian Pârvulescu. "They clearly illustrated different political skills of the two. Mrs. Sandu had an offensive style, she addressed especially the pro-Western electorate, trying to put Mr. Stoianoglo in an unpleasant position, recalling the complicated files, his activity as a prosecutor, that of a politician and so on away. Mr. Stoianoglo has a reservation, and I must admit, on the other hand, he has not behaved so weakly as I should have expected; he was predictable, he addressed his electorate".
According to the political analyst, we will see to what extent this first extraordinary electoral confrontation agreed by the teams of the two candidates will influence the electorate.
"I must say that I have never heard of a debate without a moderator. So for me it was an absolute surprise. In the end, the two adapted, they managed to deal broadly with the times they were given and the debate took place, beyond the style of each of the candidates, in reasonable conditions".
For political expert Mihai Mogâldea, the stake of the electoral debate was winning an important segment of the electorate, of 150 thousand people or 10 percent of the total number of voters, a segment that could influence the second round of voting.
"I refer, in particular, to about 90 thousand people who in the first round voted "YES" in the referendum, but did not vote for the current president Maia Sandu. It is interesting where the votes of these people will go, because they currently represent around 6% of the total number of voters. Also, there is Mr. Usatîi among the electorate, who scored 13%. Another 15% who rather voted "NO" in the referendum, but did not support Alexandr Stoianoglo. It is interesting if they decide to do so in the second round". Mihai Mogîldea also says that, for a better organization, the electoral debate had to be moderated, so that the two candidates could intervene with replies and clarifications and not admit ambiguities or even misinformation.
We remind you that, after several days of discussions, the teams of the two presidential candidates agreed on the format of the debate, which took place at the Palace of the Republic, without a moderator, and it was broadcast by several media institutions, including "Teleradio-Moldova".
The public company will organize a TV debate on Monday, October 28 before the second round of the presidential elections with the two candidates Maia Sandu and Alexandr Stoianoglo. The debate will start at 19:00 and will be broadcast live on Moldova 1 TV and Radio Moldova.
We remind you that, in the first round of voting, Maia Sandu scored 42.45% of the votes, and Alexandr Stoianoglo - 25.98%. The second round will take place next Sunday, November 3.
