Moldovans working in Italy will benefit from pensions and allowances

Moldovans working in Italy will be able to benefit from old-age, disability, survivor's pensions, compensation for work accidents or occupational diseases. A bilateral social security agreement was signed today in Rome by the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Alexei Buzu, and his counterpart, Marina Elvira Calderone.

According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, this step recognizes the contributions of the Moldovan community in Italy and improves the social protection of the diaspora.

"It is a historic agreement, which will strengthen the social protection of our citizens in Italy. I am grateful to our trusted partners and our good Italian friends for their crucial contribution to better social security for our diaspora," said Alexei Buzu. After the ratification of the agreement, citizens with at least 15 years of total contributions in both countries will be able to benefit from a pension, and applications for pensions and other social benefits will be submitted both in Italy and in the Republic of Moldova.

We mention that the Republic of Moldova has signed 16 bilateral agreements with EU member states. Moldova is currently negotiating similar agreements with Canada and France and is in talks with Slovakia, Slovenia, Cyprus, Albania and Ukraine.
