Queues at some polling stations in the diaspora
Citizens of the Republic of Moldova queued up at some polling stations abroad to exercise their right to vote in the second round of the presidential elections. Early in the morning, lines between 50 and 100 people formed at the polling stations in Bucharest, Moscow, Istanbul and Israel.
For the second round of voting, the CEC printed 3,659,696 ballots, of which 2,820,496 ballot papers for polling stations in the country and 839,200 ballots for polling stations abroad. Of these, 2,906,891 in Romanian, 746,929 in Russian, 3,900 in Gagauz, 870 in Romanian, 991 in Bulgarian and 115 in Ukrainian.
For voting by mail, 1,809 envelopes with ballot papers were sent, and by October 31, 2024, 18:00, the electoral offices of the polling stations for voting by mail in the 3 countries received 1,447 envelopes – Ottawa ( Canada) – 436 envelopes, Washington D.C. (USA) – 790 envelopes and Stockholm (Kingdom of Sweden) – 221 envelopes.
In the ballot paper there are two candidates established in order of decreasing number of votes scored in the first round:
• Maia Sandu, designated by the "Action and Solidarity Party" Political Party; • Alexandr Stoianoglo, designated by the "Party of Socialists from the Republic of Moldova" political party.
The second round of voting will be monitored by more than 2,400 national and international observers accredited by the CEC.
How do we vote? What documents are required?
Voters will be able to vote based on one of the documents:
• the identity card of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova, which confirms the domicile or temporary residence of the voter on the territory of the polling station; • the provisional identity card with the mentions regarding the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, the domicile or temporary residence of the holder; • the passport of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova, including the expired validity period.
Pupils and students can vote at any polling station in the locality where they study upon presentation of the pupil/student card issued by the educational institution in the locality where they will vote and their identity document.
