Joe Biden about the re-election of Maia Sandu: "Russia has failed"

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, congratulated Maia Sandu for her "historic re-election" as President of the Republic of Moldova. In a statement issued on November 4, the White House praised the firm vote of Moldovans for a democratic and European future, despite attempts at interference from Russia.

"On Sunday, the Moldovan people went to the polls and voted in favour of President Sandu's vision for a secure, prosperous and democratic Moldova," reads the official statement of the White House.

The USA welcomed the November 3 vote of the Moldovans for the European future of the country, despite the attempts of the Russian Federation, in recent months, to destabilize the electoral process and the democratic institutions of the Republic of Moldova.

"Russia has failed. The Moldovan people exercised their democratic right to choose their future and chose to follow a path aligned with Europe and democracies everywhere," reads the statement issued by the White House.

The candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party, Maia Sandu, won a new presidential mandate with a score of 55.33%. His counter-candidate, supported by the Party of Socialists from the Republic of Moldova, Alexandr Stoianoglo, scored 44.67%.

The EU, USA and Canada have warned the Republic of Moldova in recent months that Russia will try to influence the presidential elections in the country. Russian interference was also denounced by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova. The SIS, the Prosecutor's Office and the Police accused criminal groups, supported by the Kremlin, of unprecedented vote bribery in the context of the recent elections. According to law enforcement officers, almost 40 million dollars were sent from Russia in September-October to bribe voters in our country.
