New deposits attracted in December, up 2.2 times from December 2021
In December 2022, new term deposits attracted amounted to 6,723.3 million lei, an increase of 2.2 times compared to December 2021. The share of deposits attracted in the national currency constituted 59.1%, and those in foreign currency – 40.9%. The average rate for new term deposits in lei was 13.26%, and for those in foreign currency - 2.46%, reports IPN.
The National Bank of Moldova specifies that the volume of deposits attracted in the national currency was 3,970.9 million lei (-9.6% compared to the previous month and +92.5% compared to December 2021). The volume of foreign currency deposits, recalculated in Moldovan lei, amounted to 2,752.3 million lei (+12.7% compared to the previous month and 2.9 times more compared to December 2021).
The new deposits attracted were mainly represented by the deposits of natural persons, with a weight of 70.3%.
From the point of view of placement terms, the largest weight went to deposits with terms from 6 to 12 months, representing 42.6% of all term deposits. The deposits of natural persons attracted at this term constituted 33.1% of the total deposits.
The interest margin on operations in the national currency increased by 0.12 percentage points compared to the previous month and decreased by 4.00 percentage points compared to December 2021. The interest margin on operations in foreign currency decreased by 0.20 percentage points compared to the previous month and by 0.87 percentage points compared to December 2021.
