President of the Republic of Moldova and a Delegation from the Ministry of Energy participate in the UN Climate Change Conference held in Azerbaijan
The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, together with a delegation from the Ministry of Energy, led by Minister Victor Parlicov, is participating in the 29th session of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP29), organized in Baku from 11-22 November. The event is held under the auspices of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the UN Secretary General, António Guterres.
According to the presidential press service, during the conference, Maia Sandu will deliver a speech in the high-level segment of COP29. Also, she will have bilateral meetings with other heads of state and top officials.
During COP29, Minister Victor Parlicov will have a series of bilateral meetings, including with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Parviz Shahbazov Ogtay. During the discussions, the opportunities for strengthening cooperation in the energy sector with the regional partners of the Republic of Moldova will be explored.
A central point of the visit is the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Moldova and Bulgaria regarding cooperation in the field of security of energy supply. The partnership will support the stability of the energy supply of both states and the development of common energy security solutions in the region.
Also during COP29, Carolina Novac, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Energy, will participate in meetings on topics such as the importance of the green transition, trade policies, investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy. Emphasis will be placed on the need for cross-border mechanisms and the expansion of investment in Europe and Central Asia.
"The participation of the Republic of Moldova in this conference reflects the country's commitment to environmental protection and adaptation to climate change, while also strengthening collaboration with international partners in this direction," informs the Presidency.
The Conference of the Parties on Climate Change is the main international forum dedicated to combating climate change and annually brings together heads of state and government, business and civil society organizations to coordinate global efforts and propose concrete solutions to one of the most pressing problems of our time.
