Ludovic Orban: The Republic of Moldova must reduce its dependence on the Cuciurgan Power Plant

The Republic of Moldova must aim at the goal of reducing the dependence on electricity from the Cuciurgan Power Plant and orient itself towards the networks in the EU, implicitly in Romania, the ex prime minister of Romania, ex-president of the Chamber of Deputies, Ludovic Orban, told the Radio Moldova’s talkshow "At 360 degrees".

"The Cuciurgan plant is managed by a company linked to Gazprom, which takes gas from Moldovagaz, which takes gas from Gazprom. It's a strange money circuit here. From my point of view, the Government should pursue as a medium-term strategic objective the reduction of dependence and the best possible interconnection with the transport networks in Romania, so that electricity can be purchased. I know very well what are the investments that are made in Romania in the field of electricity, they are production capacities for which the agreement to connect to the network of almost 30,000 MWt was requested", said Orban.

Ludovic Orban also mentioned that after 4-5 years, Romania could deliver sufficiently cheap energy to the Republic of Moldova.
