Next steps in the Republic of Moldova's accession process to the EU were discussed by Anca Dragu and Jānis Mažeiks
The governor of the National Bank of Romania, Anca Dragu, met with Jānis Mažeiks, the head of the Deleation of the European Union in Chișinău, to review the main recommendations from this year's EU Enlargement Report regarding Moldova. They focused on actions needed to meet the EU accession criteria.
The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova noted that representatives from the National Bank of Moldova and other institutions have recently participated in bilateral screening sessions. These sessions are part of the EU accession negotiations, where Moldova presents to the European Commission the current status of its alignment with the EU's principles, provisions, and standards, known as the acquis.
Additionally, the preparation of Moldova's accession file to the Single Euro Payment System, submitted for evaluation to the European Payments Council on January 30, 2024, was supported by the EU-funded Twinning project. This project aims to strengthen supervision, corporate governance, and risk management in the financial sector, which the National Bank of Moldova has benefited from between October 2021 and April 2024.
