Maia Sandu, meeting with Luminița Odobescu and David Lammy. Economic prospects of the Republic of Moldova and security in the region, on the agenda

President Maia Sandu held discussions with Luminița Odobescu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, and David Lammy, the British Minister of Foreign Affairs, during a recent meeting in Chisinau. The agenda focused on the Republic of Moldova's economic prospects, the upcoming presidential elections, the constitutional referendum, and the organization of two polls scheduled to take place in Romania within the next few weeks.

The meeting addressed the regional security situation and its implications for both countries. Emphasis was placed on the need for collaborative responses to the challenges posed by regional instability and the promotion of economic and social resilience.

In this context, the participants stressed the importance of close cooperation and the ongoing exchange of experiences to effectively counter misinformation and external interference, thereby safeguarding democratic processes.

During the discussion with David Lammy, President Sandu highlighted the economic opportunities for Moldova, particularly the necessity to enhance trade between the Republic of Moldova and the United Kingdom. The removal of customs duties on several Moldovan agricultural products and the extension of the free trade agreement until 2029 present significant potential for expanding Moldovan exports. President Sandu noted that cooperation in capitalizing on these opportunities remains a priority, reads a press release of the presidential administration.

Additionally, the conversation included an assessment of the security situation in the region, with particular focus on international support for Ukraine. The officials also discussed strengthening bilateral relations, regional stability, and the consolidation of democracy in Moldova.
