Donate blood and save lives: students lead inspiring campaign
Several volunteers, primarily students, took part in a significant blood donation campaign under the slogan "Donate Blood, Be a Hero!"
Once again this year, the campaign aims to replenish national blood reserves, a critical effort to save lives. Beyond its medical significance, the campaign also advocates for a healthy lifestyle, encouraging youth to adopt health-positive habits.
Valeria donated blood for the first time, motivated by a desire to help others.
"Today, I came in great spirits, knowing that I’m helping others. I’m just beginning to learn how the process works, and I believe I’ll donate more frequently."
Other young participants also joined the "Donate Blood, Be a Hero!" campaign for the first time. Up to 450 milliliters of blood were collected during each donation.
"Yes, this is my first time.
- How are you feeling? Nervous?
- A little nervous, but otherwise completely at ease. I think it’s very important. First of all, I believe my blood will help someone—perhaps a child, perhaps an adult—and I think that’s a very noble act."
"When your parents are doctors, you’re somewhat familiar with the process and get used to it.
- Can you tell us how important it is for you to donate blood, especially for the first time, and what benefits it brings?
- I followed my parents’ example. My brother donated blood when he had the opportunity, so I decided to follow in their footsteps."
"This is my first time trying it. I wanted to donate back in school, so I didn’t want to miss the chance now.
- And how does it feel, your first time? Any emotions?
- I’m a bit scared and cold."
"It’s important for many people, but I believe everyone should donate blood.
- How do you feel?
- Very good," noted the donors.
The organizers explained that the location was carefully chosen. Over 200 people attended the previous edition, and they expect an even higher turnout this time.
"The event is organized to support the National Blood Transfusion Center, to increase the number of donors, and to assist students. Traveling to the National Blood Transfusion Center is far and inconvenient for students, so we set up the event in the middle of the campus, where students can easily come, making it convenient for everyone to donate blood," said Maximian Roșu, a student at Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
The event is organized by the Association of Medical Students and Residents, with the support of Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
